Associate Professor Beth Avery, doctoral student Sejin Park and Oklahoma City University Assistant Professor Melissa Graham’s (PhD/C&I ’14) paper won a Top Faculty Paper Award at the annual meeting of the National Communication Association in Chicago last weekend.  The paper’s title is “The role of social media in local government crisis communication.”



Chancellor’s and BOV Professor Carol Tenopir gave an invited presentation, “The importance of data, information, and knowledge in scholarly communication,” at the 75th anniversary conference of the Library and Information Studies Center at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, Nov. 27-28. 

Assistant Professor Devendra Potnis had his co-authored poster, “Educating LIS students to serve as mobile technology consultants,” accepted for presentation at the Centennial Celebration of ALISE Conference to be held in Chicago next year. The poster is co-authored with Professors Ed Cortez and Suzie Allard. The theme of next year’s conference is Mirrors and Windows: Reflections on Social Justice & Re-Imagining LIS Education.  



Professor Julie Andsager had her essay, “Research directions in social media and body image,” published in the new issue of Sex Roles (vol. 71, issue 11) as a Feminist Forum Commentary.

Lecturer Pete Finch’s article, “How to x-ray your portfolio,” was published in the Wall Street Journal on Saturday, Nov. 29,
