CCI had four award winners (one in each award category) at the UT Knoxville Alumni Board of Directors Awards Dinner on Friday, October 24 at the Knoxville Convention Center. Those honored for their outstanding achievements included: Alan Greenberg, long-time BOV member David Bohan, BOV emeritus member Anne Holt Blackburn and Dan Hellie.
“Alan, David, Anne and Dan are outstanding examples of the impact our alumni are having on their communities and society in general,” said CCi Dean Mike Wirth, “They have distinguished themselves as industry and community leaders, and they have given back to their alma mater in a variety of ways.”

Brief bios for each of CCI’s Alumni Award winners are provided below.
The UTK Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award
- Alan Greenberg (BS/ADV ’72), President – Americas & EMEA and Co-Founder, Avenues: The World School
Greenberg is the former publisher of Esquire magazine and vice chairman of Whittle Communications. He launched Greenberg News Network in 1997 and expanded his media business with multiple holdings. During the past twenty years, he has been a prolific creator and operator of innovative publishing, interactive and broadcasting properties along with a global travel services firm. Greenberg received CCI’s Donald G. Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010.
The UTK Alumni Professional Achievement Award
- David Bohan (BS/Business Administration ’70), Chairman & Founder, BOHAN Advertising/Marketing
Bohan and his agency have received numerous awards including Ad Age’s 2014 Southeast Agency of the Year Award. He founded the agency in 1990 and has many longstanding clients such as the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism, HCA Mid-America Division, Frist Center for Visual Arts, the Stoney River restaurant chain, and Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Bohan is an active community leader and volunteer serving on the UT Development Council, the board of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee and CCI’s Board of Visitors.
The UTK Alumni Service Award
- Anne Holt Blackburn (BS/JEM ’73), News Anchor, WKRN-TV
Blackburn moved to Nashville in 1976 to take a reporter and weekend anchor job at WKRN-TV News 2. In 1980, she became the station’s primary anchor. She is a four-time Emmy Award-winner and a recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award for the investigative documentary, “Under the Influence.” In 2007, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored Blackburn with the Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement. She was inducted into the inaugural class of the Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame, and she received CCI’s inaugural Donald G. Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award in 1994.She served for six years on the UT Board of Trustees and on CCI’s Board of Visitors for 17 years.
The UTK Alumni Promise Award
- Dan Hellie (BS/JEM ’97), Host of Total Access, NFL Network
Prior to joining the NFL Network, Hellie was the sports director and anchor for NBC owned WRC-TV in Washington DC. He has won two Emmys for his sports broadcasting work. Hellie also worked as a sports reporter and anchor in Orlando and West Palm Beach, Florida; Florence, South Carolina; and Alexandria, Minnesota. In 2012, he was inducted into the Magruder High School Hall of Fame.
