ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

Congratulations to Ilwoo Ju for successfully defending his dissertation. Thanks to his chair, Assistant Professor Jin Seong Park, and the other dissertation committee members Professor Mariea Hoy, Professor Ron Taylor, and Professor Dan Flint (CBA). The title of his dissertation is “The effects of risk disclosure prominence in direct-to-consumer prescription drug advertising (DTCA): The moderating role of DTCA category knowledge and the mediating role of perceived attention to risk disclosure.”

 

COMMUNICATION STUDIES

Congratulations to Scott Eldredge for successfully defending his dissertation. Thanks to his chair, Associate Professor Michelle Violanti, and the other dissertation committee members Assistant Professor Laura Miller, Associate Professor Michael Palenchar, and Professor Gregory Petty (EHHS). The title of his dissertation is “Intimacy uncertainty and identity in gay male couples dealing with a serodiscordant HIV status.”

Congratulations to Elizabeth (Betsy) Dortch Dalton for successfully defending her dissertation. Thanks to her chair, Associate Professor Michelle Violanti, and the other dissertation committee members Assistant Professor Laura Miller, Associate Professor Michael Palenchar, and Professor Gregory Petty (EHHS). The title of her dissertation is “Communication, control, and time: The lived experience of uncertainty in adolescent pregnancy.”

 

INFORMATION SCIENCES

Assistant Professor Devendra Potnis’ manuscript, “Managing gender-related challenges in ICT4D field research,” has been accepted for publication in the Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries (EJISDC).

 

JOURNALISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA

Doctoral student Jackie Cameron and co-author Assistant Professor Nick Geidner had their paper, “Something old, something new, something borrowed from something blue: Experiments in dual viewing TV and Twitter,” accepted for publication in the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media. The paper will be in a special graduate-student issue scheduled to be available online in August and in print early in September.

Geidner and co-author Cameron also had their paper, “Use patterns of interactive graphics: A case study of a New York Times’ College Debtgraphic,” published in the July 2014 issue of the Journal of Digital & Media Literacy. Congratulations to Allyson DeVito for successfully defending her dissertation. Thanks to her chair, Professor Sam Swan, and the other dissertation committee members Assistant Professor Elizabeth Hendrickson, Professor Jim Stovall, and Professor Glenn Graber (A&S). The title of her dissertation is “The role of social media editors in television newsrooms: An exploratory study.”
