The Medal of Honor Project led by JEM Assistant Professor Nick Geidner recently received awards from two groups recognizing the excellent work being done by students working on the project. The East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists (ETSPJ) recognized the Medal of Honor Project with an award of excellence for being the best blog in the East Tennessee region. The judges said the blog is an “impressive civic project that preserves important history.”
The East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS) presented MOH students with a History Award of Excellence. The award recognizes “significant contributions to the preservation, promotion, programming and interpretation of the region’s history.”

WUTK was voted “Knoxville’s Best Radio Station” for the ninth year-in-a-row in the Metro Pulse 2014 ‘Best of Knoxville’ awards, which were announced in Metro Pulse’s ‘Best of’ issue. WUTK also was voted runner-up for “Best Local Facebook Page” and Dr. John Zazu (Graham Smith) was voted runner-up for “Best Radio Personality.”
The Society for Technical Communication-East Tennessee Chapter (Chattanooga to Bristol and Crossville to Gatlinburg) presented its J. Paul Blakely Awards in Technical Communication and Science Writing at an awards banquet on Thursday, April 24. The following students from three journalism and electronic media classes – JREM 450 Writing about Science and Medicine, JREM 451 Environmental Writing, and JREM 456 Science Writing as Literature – won awards (i.e., a certificate and a cash prize):
