Internships: The Difference Maker

Noah Mayhew Noah Mayhew graduated in May 2014 with a major in public relations and plenty of on-the-job experience.  “If you want to be taken seriously by potential employers, I’m finding the internships on my resume are helping to differentiate me from other job seekers,” said  Mayhew who completed three internships during his time at UT, two during his junior year and one during his last semester with Ackermann PR in Knoxville.

“At Ackermann I wrote press releases, news items and did other client work gaining real world experience,” said Mayhew.  “The practical experience helped me take what I learned in the classroom and translate it to a real world setting. It also helped me begin to make the transition from being a student to a working professional.” (Photo on the left shows Mayhew holding his birth announcement from 1992 that reads in part, “…proud to announce the arrival of the newest Tennessee Volunteer ‘Class of 2014’…”)

“We are very grateful to CCI graduates and supporters who give back in the form of internships,” said AdvPR Associate Professor Lisa Fall.  “It is a very special kind of gift to our students and provides a level of support that is absolutely critical to their education.”
