Next time you’re on campus be sure to stop by the Communications Building to check out the new 3rd floor lobby. A massive, contemporary sign swirls through the lobby with the names of the four schools and the College of Communication and Information emblazoned across it. Two of the lobby’s pillars have been painted Tennessee orange with CCI’s core values inscribed on each side of the square columns.
To the right of the third floor entrance is a case containing CCI’s Mission Statement and a “bragcase” cataloging major publications and accomplishments of CCI faculty, alumni and students. The “bragcase” will be updated on a bi-monthly basis. On the East wall of the lobby is an 18 foot mural of the Communications Building etched on stainless steel with five acrylic panels floating over the top. The five panels contain the alumni, faculty and student award winners from the past year along with the names of members of the Dean’s Circle (i.e., donors who have given a gift of $1,000 of more dollars during the past year) and names of members of CCI’s two lifetime giving societies – the Circle Park Society (i.e., total lifetime giving to CCI of $100,000+) and the Bickel Society (i.e., total lifetime giving to CCI of $25,000 to $99,999) (http://www.cci.utk.edu/donorrecognition).
In addition to the lobby, the Communications Building has been freshly painted using new accent features to dress up the previously boring institutional look. A good opportunity to see the new lobby (along with other Communication Building changes), re-connect with CCI alumni, faculty and friends and cheer on the Vols is the CCI Tailgate Party on Saturday, Oct. 25 right before the UT/Alabama game. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend!
