Associate Professor Michael Palenchar will be attending the Sustainable Cities Initiative Conference next week at the University of Oregon. He is one of several representatives from the universities’ Qualitative Enhancement Plan (QEP) Committee attending and representing UT. The QEP is part of the 2015 reaffirmation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Congratulations to Melissa (Missy) Graham for successfully completing and defending her dissertation. Thanks to her dissertation committee Chair, Associate Professor Beth Avery, and the rest of her committee, Associate Professors Michael Palenchar and Candace White, and Professor David Houston (CAS). The title of Dr. Graham’s dissertation is “Local government-citizen relationships:  Using the coorientational approach to analyze the effectiveness of the relationship.”



Chancellor’s Professor and Board of Visitors Professor Carol Tenopir and Adjunct Professor David Nicholas will be presenting a plenary talk at the 37th Annual United Kingdom Serials Group (UKSG) in Harrogate, UK on April 15.  The title of their talk is “Trust and authority in scholarly communications in the light of the digital transition.”

On April 27, Carol Tenopir will be inducted into the Whittier (CA) High School Hall of Fame.  Among the previous inductees is President Richard Nixon. 

Professor Dania Bilal’s book, “Library automation: Core concepts and practical systems analysis,” 3rd ed., has been published by Libraries Unlimited in March 2014.  Santa Barbara, CA: Libraries Unlimited.

Assistant Professor Devendra Potnis has been invited to present a research paper, “Real-time decision to serve the unbanked poor in the developing world: Examples from Mexico and India” at the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The theme of this year’s INFORMS Annual Meeting is “Bridging Data and Decision.”
