At the 2014 AMA Marketing and Public Policy Conference in June:

Professor Mariea Hoy and Assistant Professor Abbey Levenshus will present, “Familiarity: Friend or Foe? Insights from retroactive think aloud eye tracking interviews on reading risk information on an Rx drug website.”

Assistant Professor Nate Evans (PhD ’13, now at UGA) and Professor Mariea Hoy will present, “The natives are restless: The influence of disclosure modality and cognitive load on parents’ attitudes towards children’s advergame regulation.”

Associate Professor Lisa Fall has had two papers accepted for presentation at the Southern States Communication Association conference in New Orleans: “Assessing perceptions of the public relations industry: Gaining insight from the outside to strengthen our future” ( with Stephanie Kelly (PhD ’12, now at North Carolina A&T) and “Girl talk: Examining job satisfaction and career motivation among female sport media professionals” (with Sharon Hutton, media consultant)

  • Co-authored paper with Professor Mariea Hoy, “Tapping into Simmons OneView: A method for deconstructing aggregate data for advertising research,” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising.
  • Co-authored paper with Anthony Ho-Young Ahn, (PhD ’12, now at Southern Connecticut State University) and Professor Eric Haley, “The role of optimistic bias and subjective health literacy in DTC prescription drug advertising,” will appear in the upcoming issue of Journal of Consumer Affairs.
  • Co-authored paper with CCI doctoral student Jinhee Lee,  “Segmenting green consumers in the US: Implications for green advertising,” has been accepted for publication in Journal of Promotion Management.
  • Co-authored paper with CCI doctoral student with Ilwoo Ju, “Communication strategies in direct-to-consumer prescription drug advertising (DTCA): Application of the six segment message strategy wheel,” has been accepted for publication in Journal of Health Communication.
  • Co-authored paper with Anthony Ho-Young Ahn and Professor Eric Haley, “Optimistic bias, advertising skepticism, and consumer intentions for seeking information about the health risks of prescription medicine,” will be presented at the upcoming annual conference of the American Academy of Advertising, Atlanta, GA, March 27 – 30.



PhD student Scott Eldredge was invited to present at a workshop on Wed., Mar. 5, to the State of Tennessee Public Health Department as part of its biannual professional development meeting. His presentation is entitled “HIV as a shared experience: Using narratives to explore uncertainty, identity, and disease management of sero-discordant couples.”The presentation is based on his dissertation research and will reach a diverse audience, including health care workers, social workers, case managers, and their HIV positive clients. 


Assistant Professor Elizabeth Hendrickson will be judging the National Magazine Awards in New York City, March 12 – 13. 

On Sunday Mar. 9 at 11:30 am, JEM students will begin producing UT TODAY, a weekly news magazine, for WBIR-TV, Channel 10, in Knoxville.  The half-hour program is scheduled to run for 8 consecutive weeks.  This is the 20th season of UT TODAY. The production is led by Professor Sam Swan.
