COMMUNICATION STUDIES

LSU Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies James Honeycutt is visiting UT next week to collaborate on research projects with Assistant Professor Courtney Wright and CCI doctoral candidate Martijn van Kelegom. Honeycutt will speak to Wright’s undergraduate and graduate classes on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in the Scripps Convergence Lab Theater:
9:40 am – “Keeping conflict alive: On mental imagery and arguing” (undergrad. conflict course)
12:40 pm – “Physiology and imagined interactions” (grad. interpersonal communication seminar)

          
INFORMATION SCIENCES

Chancellor’s and CCI BOV Professor Carol Tenopir is making two presentations Feb 20 and 21 on her Lib-Value project at meetings at the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 – Laboratoire ELICO in Lyon, France. On Feb. 25 she is a featured speaker at the NFAIS meeting (scholarly publishers) in Philadelphia. She will be presenting results from the Sloan Foundation project on Trust in Scholarly Reading, Citing and Publishing. The Trust project team includes Associate Professor Suzie Allard (SIS) and Associate Professor Ken Levine (CS).

Assistant Professor Wade Bishop will present his paper, “Careers and collaborations: Partnerships in archives, data centers, and libraries,” at “Mapping outside the lines: Geography as a nexus for interdisciplinary and collaborative research” on Saturday, Feb. 22 in room 221 of the University Center.  Two SIS students will also present papers at the event.  The two-day event will begin Friday Feb. 21.  For more information see, http://www.utk.edu/events/index.php?eID=54707

JOURNALISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA

Assistant Professor Nick Geidner will be part of a panel discussion on how journalists cover (or elects not to cover) veterans as part of an event on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bearden Library meeting room.  The event is hosted by the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists.  and is in preparation for the upcoming Medal of Honor Convention to be held in Knoxville Sep. 10 – 13, 2014. http://mohproject.org/
