Hufford Receives St. George and Lasker ACS Volunteer Awards

Bonnie HuffordBonnie Hufford, JEM lecturer, recently received two awards from the American Cancer Society (ACS).  On Feb. 6, Hufford was awarded the American Cancer Society’s Mary Lasker Award.  It is one of five inaugural Hope Awards given to outstanding ACS volunteers in the state of Tennessee.
This award follows Hufford’s Oct. 2013 St. George National Award bestowed on her and 26 other individuals from across the country.  The St. George award is the American Cancer Society’s most prestigious volunteer recognition for outstanding service to the community.
“Bonnie Hufford is an inspiration to everyone she meets,” said Mike Wirth, dean of UT’s College of Communication and Information. “All of her colleagues at the University of Tennessee are very proud of the incredible volunteer work she continues to do for the American Cancer Society along with her outstanding work as a teacher and mentor. She gives true meaning to what it means to be a Volunteer!”
