CCI Benefits from Two Estate Gifts

Tutt Bradford  Sammie Lynn Puett

The College of Communication and Information has received two estate gifts.

The first gift was from the estate of Tutt Bradford and totaled $126,000. It was added to the already existing Tutt and Elizabeth Bradford Journalism Excellence Endowment in the School of Journalism and Electronic Media. Tutt Bradford was a very generous individual and a legendary journalistic and business figure in East Tennessee.  He was the former owner and publisher of the Daily Times of Maryville and an emeritus member of the College’s Board of Visitors.

The second gift of $28,833 came from the estate of Eugene and Sammie Lynn Puett to establish the Eugene and Sammie Lynn Puett Endowment Fund to benefit student members of UT’s Sammie Lynn Puett Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The purpose of the endowment is to provide professional development opportunities such as field trips, attending the PRSSA convention, and other appropriate uses.  Sammie Lynn Puett (BS/JEM ‘58) was a longtime University of Tennessee administrator. During her time at UT she served as an associate professor of journalism, associate vice president for university relations, and vice president for public service, continuing education and university relations. Eugene Puett served as a legal counsel for the University of Tennessee prior to his retirement.

“We are very grateful to Tutt and Elizabeth Bradford and to Eugene and Sammie Lynn Puett for their incredible generosity, and we will continue to honor their memories in perpetuity as a result of their investment in the future development of our students and faculty,” said CCI Dean Mike Wirth.

CCI Director of Development Patrick Powell says, “There are multiple ways a supporter can contribute to the College.  Planned estate gifts such as these are one method, but there are other options and combinations available.  Karen Robinette and I stand ready to work with all donors to provide creative ideas to help determine the best options for giving.”  The CCI development staff can be reached at ccidevelopment@utk.edu or 865.974.3211.
