Associate Professor Lisa Fall, Stephanie Kelly (North Carolina A&T University), Patrick Macdonald (independent researcher), Charles Primm and Whitney Holmes (both from UT Media Relations) had their paper “Intercultural communication apprehension & emotional intelligence: Preparing college students for career success” accepted for publication in Business Communication Quarterly.

Palenchar and Tanya Ickowitz (MA/AdvPR ’12, first author) will present their paper, “Crisis Communication Representations of Public Universities: Crisis and Chaos Theory,” at this summer’s International Public Relations Research Conference (IPRRC) in Barcelona, Spain.

Palenchar (associate editor) and Robert Heath (editor, Univ. of Houston) will also serve as plenary speakers at IPRRC discussing the upcoming Encyclopedia of Public Relations II (Sage).  




Professor Dania Bilal’s paper, “Readability of Text Retrieved by Search Engines on Children’s Queries: The Case of Google,” has been accepted for presentation at the 5th Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference in Rome, Italy, June 4-7.

Correction: Professor Dania Bilal and CCI Doctoral Student Reid Boehm’s paper, “Towards new methodologies for assessing relevance of information retrieval from web search engines on children’s queries,” has been accepted for publication in Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods in Libraries: An International Journal of Library and Information Science.



Professor Dwight Teeter’s book “The devil and his due: James Gordon Bennett,” is now a live, multimedia book available on the iBookstore. JEM 499 student David Doyle, assisted with the design of the book and added many of the multimedia features. Professor Ed Caudill also appears in a couple of the book’s videos talking about the importance of the Penny Press

Professor Rob Heller and his advanced photojournalism class marked the twentieth anniversary of the “Eyes on LaFollette” project by producing the largest edition ever (16 pages) last week. Heller and his students spent 30 hours in LaFollette, then edited, designed and produced this special section of the LaFollette Press

Tennessee Journalist ( and the Knoxville News Sentinel (KNS) have agreed to co-produce a book on the first season of the Butch Jones era as head football coach at the University of Tennessee. The book will be a combination of TNJN and KNS writing, audio, images and video. The book will be produced in three forms: a multimedia iPad book available on the iBookstore; a Kindle version; and a print version available on Amazon. Jennifer Brake, editor-in-chief of TNJN and a former News Sentinel intern, will be the editor of the book and will work closely with TNJN and KNS staffers this summer to produce the book. The 1.0 edition of the book should be available in all forms by August 15. A subsequent edition of the book will be produced in December at the end of the football season.
