Three CCI faculty members – Beth Avery (AdvPR), Nick Geidner (JEM), and Jonathan Pettigrew (CS) –have been selected to participate in UTK’s 2013 Grant Writing Institute (GWI). This is a remarkable achievement in view of the fact that the UT Office of Research selected only 12 tenure track faculty members university-wide to participate in this year’s GWI. Even more impressive is the fact that 10 of the 25 UTK faculty members who submitted applications to this year’s Institute were from CCI.
“I want to personally thank all 10 CCI faculty members who applied to the Grant Writing Institute and congratulate the three individuals selected to participate,” said CCI Dean Mike Wirth. “We will continue to explore every possible avenue to provide faculty members with the help and support they need to become more successful when they apply for grants.”
GWI is an intensive summer “boot camp” immersing participants in the skills needed for writing strong grant proposals. With the support of mentors, participants will write a final proposal to send to an actual grant program for review and possible funding.
