Video Production Specialist Mike Wiseman is the School of Journalism and Electronic Media’s (JEM) newest staff member. Wiseman, an award winning senior producer who joined CCI from WBIR-TV, has an M.S. in educational media design & technology from Full Sail University and a B.A. in communications and film production from the University of Memphis.
In his new role, Wiseman will be working with The Volunteer Channel (TVC) (a UT student organization now being managed by JEM) and with JEM faculty and students on video production projects, programming, technology, and, in some cases, giving guest lectures.
According to the current TVC web page, “The Volunteer Channel reaches about 7,000 UTK students in residence halls and about 100,000 through … Comcast Digital Channel 194 locally. TVC exists to create informative, entertaining, and inspiring broadcast-quality television for the University of Tennessee and Knoxville community, while at the same time giving students real-life experience in television production and related fields. TVC [produces programs] on campus events and UT sports, as well as various studio and field productions held throughout the semester. Students learn camerawork, directing, producing, writing, and much more.” TVC will soon have a new web address and logo to go along with its move from UT’s Video Services to CCI’s JEM.
While the bulk of TVC’s operation will remain the same, the move to new editing bays and the addition of Wiseman to manage TVC, will provide students with more hands-on equipment and software learning opportunities.
“This is an exciting turn in my career,” said Wiseman. “Working with students and sharing the knowledge I’ve gained from actual media experiences is exhilarating. I have the opportunity to make a real difference here at the college and I look forward to the challenge.”
