Dinner Honors CCI Scholarship Donors

2012 Scholarship Donor Appreciation Dinner

The annual CCI Scholarship Donor Appreciation Dinner was held Sept. 21 at the Knoxville Holiday Inn World’s Fair Park.  Several CCI scholarship recipients attended the event, and many were able to meet their benefactors face-to-face for the first time.

CCI Board of Visitors member and President/CEO of Chicago-based Leading Real Estate Companies of the World Pam O’Connor provided an inspiring keynote address to scholarship donors and recipients. She recounted the importance of the scholarship support she received as a UT undergraduate and urged student scholarship recipients to  “Be Open to the Possibilities!”  Greg Dowell, communication studies senior and Charles J. McClung Scholarship award recipient provided a student perspective. His message of gratitude was repeated throughout the evening by all the students in attendance.

CCI Scholarships are reflective of the rich history of the College with many scholarships established to recognize the contributions of past faculty members and leaders and to honor alumni and friends of the College. Regardless of why they were established, CCI’s scholarships all share the purpose of providing outstanding students with much needed financial support.

Greg Dowell, Pam O'Connor, Dean Wirth (l-r)Nationwide, grants and scholarship funding have been on the decrease according to a recent U.S. News education report.*  About 29% of all college students’ funding comes from these sources.  Thirty-four percent of the funding comes from federal loans.  The majority of the rest of the funding is from personal savings. **

“Providing our students with scholarship support to help them attend and finish college continues to be a very high priority for CCI,” said CCI Dean Mike Wirth.  “As we move forward on our Journey to the Top 25, we must continue to attract and support outstanding students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Establishing endowed scholarships is an excellent way for alumni and friends to give back by investing in CCI’s future. ”  Organizations or individuals interested in establishing a new scholarship award or contributing to an existing scholarship can contact CCI Director of Development Patrick Powell to help answer questions and provide ideas on how to make the most impact with scholarship gifts.  He can be reached at ppowell@utfi.org or 865.974.3211.  A list of currently available CCI Scholarships will be available soon at http://www.cci.utk.edu/advising/financial-aid.
