2004 Winner – H. Wayne Hudson

Wayne HudsonFormer broadcaster Wayne Hudson received the Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award at the college’s Convocation program on April 21. A native of Harriman, Tenn., Hudson received his BS in business with a journalism major in 1951 and began his career as an announcer at WATE in Knoxville.

In 1960, Hudson moved to Memphis and entered broadcast sales with Plough Broadcasting and WMPS Radio. He covered sales and station management and eventually became the president of the broadcast division. By the time of his retirement, the company owned AM/FM operations around the country.

Hudson is a former member of the College’s Board of Visitors and was active in the university’s 21st Century Campaign in 1995. He served as presi­dent of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters and received the organization’s distinguished Service Award in 1984. He has assumed leadership roles in many Memphis-area professional organizations.

Mr. Hudson and his wife Betty have two children and five grandchildren.
