CCI Auditorium Seat to Honor Memory of Janet Ricks McConnell

McConnellJanet Ricks McConnell (B.S./JEM ’90) died suddenly on Friday April 29, 2011 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville after suffering a cerebral aneurysm while driving to her hometown of Oak Ridge, TN.  McConnell was a wife, mother and professional.  She was director of brand strategy and new media at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBST) where she had worked for 13 years.  She also gave back to her community by serving: as an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Chattanooga, on the boards of Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County and the Children’s Enrichment Center and as a past board member of the Hamilton County UT Alumni Association.  She is survived by her husband, Keith McConnell, son, Jack and parents Bob and Sue Ricks of Oak Ridge, TN.

CCI Board of Visitors member Ron Harr (B.S./JEM ’76), who hired McConnell in 1998 to work for BCBST,  along with her family,  ask that donations in memory of Janet Ricks McConnell be made to the UT Knoxville College of Communication and Information’s “Take-a-Seat” campaign in order to name a seat for her in the college’s newly renovated Auditorium.  Harr said of McConnell, “Her infectious smile and keen wit will be missed by everyone she ever met.  Her contributions to the success of our company were huge. She did our college proud.”
