CCI has partnered with the United States Air National Guard to provide an in-depth workshop for key military personnel with primary responsibilities in communications. The executive education course, “Using Web 2.0 and Social Media to Communicate,” is designed to help participants use tools such as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and other social media to increase the effectiveness of their communication efforts.
The course has been customized for the special communication needs of the Air National Guard and other branches of the military. One example is a case study focused on mock communication preparations for a hurricane. The exercise provides hands-on experience putting into practice the elements learned during the workshop.
“We are particularly proud of this course because it clearly demonstrates the depth of expertise possessed by our faculty,” said Sam Swan, professor and director of the CCI executive education program. “Utilization of hands-on exercises with real-time blogs and social media accounts throughout the course enables participants to immediately utilize what they learn each day in class.”
Swan said that because the Air National Guard is called upon to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including state and local governments, agencies and the public, it has a unique need to know and effectively use social media communication strategies.
The college provides a number of other executive education classes, including “Strategies for Effective Communication and Information in the Corporate World” and “Crisis Communication and Media Relations: Strategies for Survival.”
