The College of Communication and Information (CCI) has dedicated a classroom in honor of former Volunteer quarterback and CCI alumnus Peyton Manning.
The dedication of the classroom in the Communications Building also marked the inception of the Peyton Manning Communications Enrichment Endowment. The fund will provide ongoing support for a variety of educational initiatives within the college’s School of Communication Studies. Manning was the top Speech Communications graduate in Spring 1997, and he received the College of Communication and Information’s Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007. + read more
JEM Graduate Student Wins Major Award
Marlene Taylor, a graduate student in Journalism and Electronic Media specializing in science writing, was honored by the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners at its recent conference in Knoxville.
Taylor proposed a start-up blog that will use multi-media articles to explain the rehabilitation of Beaver Creek in northern Knox County by various people and organizations (including UT researchers). + read more

Three CCI Alumnae Inducted into UT Lady Volunteer Hall of Fame
On Sept. 24, seven former student-athletes from six Lady Vol teams were inducted into the Tennessee Lady Volunteer Hall of Fame – three of them were graduates of the College of Communication and Information.
The three CCI inductees were: Laura Lauter Smith ‘01 (Soccer), Katharina Larsson Samuelsson ‘94 (Golf) and Adrienne Walker Chery ’00 (Softball). + read more
Board of Visitors Spotlight: Lelan Statom ’86
Lelan A. Statom is an Emmy Award-winning meteorologist who has been helping Mid-Southerners start their day for more than 15 years. Since 1999, he has been part of Nashville’s #1 rated morning newscast, NewsChannel 5 This Morning. Lelan joined the NewsChannel 5 Network in 1993 as weather anchor for the weekend morning and evening newscasts. In September 2006, he was named co-host of Talk of the Town, the station’s long-running and top-rated talk show. + read more
