CCI Diversity and Inclusion Week 2011

BOV

Nearly 1,100 students, faculty, staff and community members attended CCI Diversity and Inclusion Week panels and workshops along with a Diversity Festival from September 18-22. “We were very pleased with the quality and level of participation in this year’s program,” said Alice Wirth, director of Diversity and Inclusion for the college and chair of the Week’s Planning Committee. “Our keynoter, Joetta Clark Diggs, was superb. We have certainly set a high bar for next year.”  + read more

 

Carroll New Chair of CCI Board of Visitors

Bonnie Carroll, founder and president of Information International Associates (IIa) in Oak Ridge, TN, is the new chair of the College of Communication and Information’s Board of Visitors (BOV). With a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a Master of Science degree in library and information science from Columbia University, she is the first non-UT Knoxville alum and first person with an information science background to serve as BOV chair.  + read more

Beating Back Childhood Cancer

Raising nearly $200,000 in three short years to fuel the fight against childhood cancer could not have been achieved without the passionate work of CCI graduates Brian Barger (B.S./ JEM ’98) and Christina Harrill (B.S. /PR ’99) and their spouses, Misty (B.S./ED ’98) and James (B.S./ENG ’98). Brian and his wife, Misty, lost their youngest daughter, Emily, to Rhabdomyosarcoma in June of 2008 at the age of seven, and Christina and her husband, James, lost their daughter, Maddie, at the age of 5, to the same cancer within a few weeks of Emily’s death. + read more

CCI The Falling Man Screening Commemorates 9/11

On the evening of September 8, CCI commemorated the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by holding a screening and panel discussion of the documentary film, The Falling Man.
