Avery Publishes in Journal of Health and Mass Communication
Assistant professor Beth Avery’s article, “Preparing for Pandemic Flu while Managing Uncertainty: An Analysis of the Construction of Fear and Uncertainty in Press Releases of Major Health Agencies,” was recently published in the Journal of Health and Mass Communication. Sora Kim (CCI PhD ‘09), assistant professor, University of Florida, was co-author of the article.
Haley and Chen publish in Journal of Interactive Advertising
Eric Haley, professor, and Huan Chen, doctoral student, published a paper entitled, “The Lived Meanings of Chinese Social Network Sites (SNSs) among Urban White-Collar Professionals: A Story of Happy Network,” in the Fall 2010 Issue of the Journal of Interactive Advertising.
Palenchar and Freberg present at Dept. of Homeland Security conference
Michael Palenchar, associate professor, and Karen Freberg, doctoral student, recently attended the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) working conference on “Effective Risk Communication for the IED threat” in Williamsburg, Virginia. They presented a working paper, as part of a research project with DHS, entitled, “Mobile Technologies Implemented in Risk Communication Practices and Disasters: Counter Improvised Explosive Devices.”
Welch presents paper at Library History Seminar XII
Cindy Welch, assistant professor and youth services coordinator, delivered a paper entitled, “Children’s Stories through the Air: Librarian-Broadcasters and the Transmission of Values, 1922-1941,” at the Library History Seminar XII, held in Madison, Wisconsin on September 10th. The seminar was co-sponsored by the Library History Round Table of the American Library Association and the Center for the History of Print Culture in Modern America at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Natalie Manayeva, CCI doctoral student and JEM graduate teaching associate, Dzmitry Yuran, JEM master’s student, and Michael R. Fitzgerald, Director of Governance Studies at the Baker Center, published, “A Comparative Study of Images Created by Press Coverage of the United States and the Republic of Belarus,” in the Baker Center Journal of Applied Public Policy (vol. 2).
