2011 Commencement

Thursday May 12 CCI held its 2011 Commencement.  Alan Wilson, chairman, president, and CEO of McCormick & Company, gave the commencement address and was presented CCI’s Donald G. Hileman Distinguished Alumni Award.  The link for the CCI commencement webcast is: CCI Commencement webcast .  CCI awarded 121 B.A., 115 B.S., 78 M.S. and 9 PhD degrees with an audience of approximately 2,000 in attendance.



Fall named Faculty Fellow for 2011-12

OIT announced Associate Professor Lisa Fall as its Faculty Fellow for the 2011-12 academic year.


Fall will spend about 10 hours a week working with the OIT Instructional Development and Training initiative on instructional technology projects to advance exemplary teaching and to enrich the experience of students in the College of Communication and Information and throughout the UTK campus. Fall, who has extensive experience teaching online, will focus on online education and incorporating technology into the communication curriculum.


PRSSA Student Campaign Team Wins Regional Competition and $1,000 for PRSSA

A team of PR majors and Sammie Lynn Puett PRSSSA chapter members (Taylor Griffin, Bonnie Willard, Meghan Slater, Victoria Kisluk, and Jessica Stephens) recently won a campaigns competition sponsored by global PR agency Fleishman-Hillard.  The team won the regular season contest and $1,000 for the PRSSA chapter by developing a plan for the Buffalo Wild Wings’ “Home Court Advantage” campaign that promoted the restaurant as the place to watch college basketball.  The students’ campaign generated remarkable increases in revenue according to an Account Executive at Fleishman-Hillard  who said, “I would like to thank the [UTK] team for the level of professionalism it showed throughout the campaign. You were a joy to work with, and you showed PR prowess above and beyond our expectations.”



Correction to ‘Three from SIS have paper accepted’

In the May 6edition of Inside CCI, the fourth co-author on the paper published by the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science  was Jenna Nolt (M.S./SIS ’11) not John Nolt.



WUTK voted ‘Best’ again

WUTK 90.3 FM “The Rock,” UT Knoxville’s student-operated radio station, was voted the best radio station in Knoxville in Metro Pulse’s annual “Best of Knoxville 2011” reader’s poll. This marked the sixth straight year that WUTK has won this award.
