Morrison named Interim Director of the School of Advertising and Public Relations
Dean Mike Wirth announced the appointment of Professor Margaret Morrison to serve as Interim Director of the School of Advertising and Public Relations for 2011-12.

Morrison elected vice-president of the American Academy of Advertising
Professor Margaret Morrison has been elected Vice-president of the American Academy of Advertising (http://www.aaasite.org/ ). Her duties as vice-president include serving as program chair for the AAA 2012 Annual Conference.

School to host bi-annual McClung Public Speaking Contest
The School of Communication Studies will host the bi-annual McClung Public Speaking Contest Thursday, April 28th at 8 p.m. in Cox Auditorium of the Alumni Memorial Building. The competition will consist of five student finalists from more than 800 enrolled in Communication Studies 210 courses. The event is coordinated by Communication Studies 217 honors students. Allard speaks at two conferences
Associate Professor Suzie Allard delivered talks at two conferences during plenary sessions. Allard spoke on “Perfecting STEM Partnerships: Environmental Scientists, Information Scientists, Librarians & Educators, Oh My!” at the 2011 WebWise Conference sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services held in Baltimore, Maryland on March 10. “DataONE: Facilitating eScience through Collaboration” was the title of her April 6 talk at the Third eScience Symposium hosted by the University of Massachusetts and New England Area Librarians.
Winkelstein speaks at Workshop on Libraries and Human Rights
Ph.D. candidate Julie Winkelstein spoke at the Workshop on Libraries and Human Rights at the University of Arizona, Tucson on April 15. The Workshop was part of The Information Ethics Roundtable Conference on Information Rights as Human Rights that included professionals in philosophy, information science, and journalism. Winkelstein’s talk was titled, “The Role of the Public Library in the Lives of LGBTQ Homeless Teens.”
