Available online at

UT Knoxville has more than 629 faculty, staff, and students who are active-duty U.S. military, veterans, reservists, or members of the National Guard. Among the campus veterans is JEM Meeman Professor Jim Stovall who served in the U. S. Navy from 1971 to 1974. We thank and honor Jim and all UT veterans and active-duty faculty, staff, and students for their service to our country on Veteran’s Day 2011!

Associate Professor Michael  Palenchar will present his paper, “Risk Equity: Why Race and Class are Life and Death Matters in Risk Communication” as part of a convention theme group entitled “Opening Minds, Expanding Possibilities: Exploring the Role of Race and Class-Based Perspectives in PR,” at the National Communication Association’s (NCA) annual conference next week in New Orleans. He will also make a presentation at an NCA preconference seminar entitled “Communicating Coastal Risks and Crises: Creating Partnerships and Giving Voice to Stakeholders, Scholars, and Scientists.”

Palenchar will make a presentation later this month on sustainable environment and risk communication and serve a luncheon keynote speaker, at the Turkish Federation of Food and Drink Association’s Food Congress Conference in Cesme, Izmir, Turkey.

On Wednesday, November 9, Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir presented a webinar, “Beyond Usage: Measuring Library Outcomes and Value,”  to 500 members of the East Tennessee Library Association.
