Associate Professor Bharat Mehra, Assistant Professor Devendra Potnis, and doctoral student Jennifer Morden published their paper entitled “An exploratory study of the nature and composition of current library and information science programs in Indian state universities” in Perspectives in International Librarianship. Professor Mark Harmon’s article, “Why people are poor/wealthy: Powerful frames for public attitudes and opinions,” appears in the Spring 2012 edition of the Baker Center Journal of Applied Public Policy.  Harmon is also featured in the June 2012 newsletter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee.  He and “little brother” Levi Lacey have been matched for seven and a half years.  Their favorite activities are Ice Bears Hockey, Smokies Baseball, and par-three golf.

Lecturer Maria Fontenot’s paper co-authored with Shelley Wigley  (University of Texas-Arlington), “Breaking news coverage: A comparison of sources used in the coverage of the shooting at Virginia Tech and Tucson, Arizona” was presented at the annual ICA conference in Phoenix, AZ, May 2012.

Professor and Associate Dean Catherine Luther, Maria Fontenot, and doctoral student Ioana Coman had their paper, “A wave of sources: An examination of sources used in U.S. and Japanese newspaper coverage of the tsunami in Japan” accepted for presentation at the annual AEJMC conference in Chicago, IL, August 2012.

Raven Records and Rarities is moving to 1200 N. Central in the Happy Holler community of downtown Knoxville.  The move will be celebrated by a series of media events on Saturday, June 16, at Relix Variety Theatre, two doors up from the new Raven location.  The event will be another in a series of fundraisers for 90.3 The Rock WUTK-FM.  

Lecturer Hubert Smith has been appointed by Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and approved by Knox County Commission to serve a six-year term on the Public Building Authority of Knox County Board of Directors.
