CCI faculty and staff are invited to the Social Media Week Kickoff Breakfast Wednesday, Apr. 25, from 8:30-10 am in the Scripps Lab. Jason Yellin, UT Assistant Athletic Director-Media Relations, and Tom Satkowiak, UT Associate Media Relations Director, will give a presentation titled “Social Media Use of UT Athletics and Policies for Student Athletes.”  The entire program can be found online at



Professor Dania Bilal had her paper “Towards new methodologies for assessing relevance of information retrieval from web search engines on children’s queries,” co-authored with Meredith Boehm (SIS graduate student), accepted for presentation at the 4th Annual Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries Conference. The conference will be held in Limerick, Ireland, May 22-26. The paper will be published in the QQML Proceedings.



Professor Rob Heller took his advanced photojournalism students to LaFollette last weekend for the annual “Eyes on LaFollette” project. After shooting several thousand photos over a 30-hour period, Heller and his students narrowed those down to seventy that will appear in a class produced special section of the LaFollette Press.

Assistant Professor Erin Whiteside published “The new ‘Toy Department?’ A case study on differences in sports coverage between traditional and new media,” co-authored with Nan Yu (North Dakota State University) and Marie Hardin (Penn State University), in the Journal of Sports Media, 7(1), pp. 23-38.
