Whether you’re a potential or current student, one of our alumni, or a friend, welcome to the College of Communication and Information! I hope that our online presence will help you learn more about the great things that are happening here.
The College of Communication and Information is truly on the move. Since I became dean of CCI in August 2006, I have become even more enthusiastic about CCI. My enthusiasm stems largely from the many recent accomplishments of CCI and its faculty. A few examples of the exciting things happening here include:
- The creation and unanimous faculty adoption of a forward-looking strategic plan for the college that focuses on excellence and provides CCI with an exciting vision for the future.
- Student demand for our courses is at an all time high.
- Strong growth of the college’s sponsored research program.
- CCI’s recent establishment of an internationalization and outreach program (IOP) allows us to build on our existing international strengths and create new programs. IOP allows us to strengthen our ties beyond Tennessee to ensure that our students are “ready for the world”.
- Our curriculum is also expanding and growing stronger. For example, in Fall 2006 the college launched its newly revised and interdisciplinary PhD program in communication and information as well as a new leading-edge undergraduate minor in information science and technology.
- U.S. News and World Reports’ recent ranking of the School of Information Sciences as the 16th best library and information science program in the country and a scholarly article’s ranking of Information Sciences as the top program in the United States with respect to per capita publication of articles from 1999-2004 also stand out as major achievements for the college.
These are just a few of the many things we’re proud of at CCI. Of course, at the heart of this excellent work is a great group of talented faculty, dedicated to achieving academic excellence with respect to research/creative work, teaching and academic/community service. Thank you for your interest in the College of Communication and Information. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance.
