PhD Student Research

The College of Communication and Information offers multiple research opportunities for doctoral students. A research symposium every spring is a venue for presenting projects developed in classes. The college's Center for Information and Communication Studies hires graduate assistants to work on funded research projects. A professional development seminar teaches the nuts and bolts of conducting and publishing original scholarly works. Regular brown-bag lunches allow both faculty and students to present and critique research. And limited funding is available for graduate students to present research at academic conferences.

Faculty Research and Advising

Faculty members are the heart of the doctoral program. They are active in every phase - from admission to graduation.

A first-year adviser helps students select coursework and set a research agenda. Faculty who lead doctoral seminars help students build a knowledge base. Many faculty members share their research projects with doctoral students. And the dissertation adviser helps launch the student's academic career.

Faculty members in the college have strong national and international reputations as researchers and teachers. They publish in leading journals in both disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields.

Research Database

A Research Database provides a bibliography of research done by faculty members and doctoral students.  You can search on a variety of fields including researcher name, publication year, and keyword.
