The College of Communication and Information held its commencement ceremony on Friday, May 9 at the Knoxville Convention Center in Exhibit Hall A. ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
-- Journal to publish Hoy's paper on banner ad disclosures
The Journal of Consumer Policy will publish Mariea Hoy's paper, "An International Perspective of Online Disclosure Presentation: A Comparison of Banner Ad Disclosures from United States, United Kingdom and Singapore." Hoy co-authored the paper with May Lwin, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
--Journal of Computer Mediated Communication accepts paper by McMillan, Hoy
Sally McMillan and Mariea Hoy, as well as former doctoral students Juran Kim and Carolynn McMahan, have had their paper, "A Multifaceted Tool for a Complex Phenomenon: Coding Web-based Interactivity as Technologies for Interaction Evolve," accepted for publication in the Journal of Computer Mediated Communication. The paper is scheduled to appear in the July issue.

--Wang submits grant proposal to National Science Foundation
Peiling Wang, in collaboration with Jian Huang and James Plank in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UT Knoxville, submitted a grant proposal to the National Science Foundation's Advanced Learning Technologies program. The proposal is entitled "First Experience Learning Technologies for Computational STEM Instruction."

JOURNALISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA
--Science writing student, recent JEM alumna earn honors
Noa Davidai, a spring 2008 student in Writing about Science and Medicine while working on her master's degree in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, has won the J. Paul Blakely Award of Excellence established by the Society for Technical Communication, East Tennessee Chapter for two articles she wrote for the science-writing course. One of Davidai's articles, on mountain lions in the Smokies, has been accepted for publication in Appalachian Voice. Ashley Yeager, 2007 UT Torchbearer and honors JEM/Science Journalism graduate, has completed her master's degree in science writing at MIT. She has been selected for the elite science-writing internship at Science News magazine.
