  • Internet Public Library - Online public library founded by the University of Michigan that organizes and provides access to information across many different subject areas. Contains many useful pathfinders.

Government Information

  • Federal Government Resources on the Web- Index to U.S. government sites and related resources.
  • FirstGov: The U.S. Government’s Official Web Portal - Links to over 51 million federal, local, and tribal government sites. The “reference center” link connects to useful data and statistics as well as a digital archive of U.S. graphics and photos. The extensive FAQ is keyword searchable.
  • GPO Access - U.S. government site allows free searches of full-text databases containing publications of the Government Printing Office relating to all three government branches.
  • CQ Electronic Library - Documents covering American politics and current affairs. Includes CQ Researcher, CQ Researcher en español, CQ Congress Collection, CQ Supreme Court Collection, CQ Public Affairs Collection,CQ Voting and Elections Collection,CQ Encyclopedia of American Government and CQ Insider.
  • State and Local Government on the Net - Links to state and local governments for all 50 states. Also provides a topics index for all 50 states.
  • GovLinks Index: Local Government - An index of links for county and city governments across the U.S.
  • United Nations - Official site of the United Nations. Contains links to all U.N. organizations and departments, as well as U.N. documents.

  • Biography.com - Biographical sketches for over 25,000 notable people from ancient times to the present. A quick and reliable way to gain initial background information on a subject.
  • The History Channel - The homepage search box accesses a large encyclopedia containing much biographical information.
  • Who’s Who Online - Professional and biographical data about individuals across the Internet community. Note: data is provided by the individuals themselves.
