2010 New York Trip - For All UT Ad Club Members and UT Ad Majors

****Printable New York Trip Registration Forms Are Available At The Bottom Of The Page****

September 29, 2009

Dear UT Ad Club Members and UT Ad Majors:

Get a firsthand look at the New York advertising community this January by participating in the 18th annual UT AD Club New York Agency/Media trip.  This year's trip is set for Monday, January 18 through Saturday, January 23, 2010.

Agencies such as Young & Rubicam, DDB and other advertising-related companies will give special presentations for us. They will include part of their new business pitch (including the agency reel), case studies, and their personnel directors will discuss what they look for in hiring. You will have the opportunity to meet UT grads who are currently working in the capital of the ad industry, and you'll have time to explore the city.

We can take 24 students this year.  The trip is open to UT Ad Club members first.

Costs per person are estimated as follows:

 Hotel and Airfare package                                                                                              $959.00

Meals - 6 days at $30/day .....................................                              180.00

Surface transportation (taxi, bus, subway) ....................                                    60.00

 TOTAL ESTIMATED COST . ......$ 1199.00*

(*Non-Ad Club Members add $60.00 and make separate check to UT/AAF Chapter)

To register for this trip you need to sign the bottom of this letter, fill out the attached form and return both to Dr.Haley with your payment of $959.00 for your hotel and airfare package by Noon, October, 20, 2009. If all spots are not taken by Ad Club members, the remaining spots will be made available to non-members. Non-members will be put on a waiting list and unfilled spots will be filled based on the order in which non-members names appear on the list. Payment options are explained on the registration form.  The rest of the money will be whatever you take with you in January.  Trip reservations are first-come, first served. If we fill up before Oct. 20th, then we fill up! Put all the above in Dr. Haley’s hands!

Food estimate is an average.  Reasonable coffee shops and fast food restaurants are close to the hotel.   Entertainment, shopping, dining in "fine" restaurants are a matter of individual taste and will move the food cost and the pocket money to a higher amount.  Room costs do not include phone calls or any extra room charges.  These will be your responsibility and must be paid for prior to checkout by you.

Most appointments are within walking distance of the hotel.  Transportation estimate tries to include free-time excursions, and should be on the high side, especially if you make use of the subway system.

Considering that the price includes five nights at a midtown Manhattan hotel, this is a reasonable cost for a trip that could be an invaluable investment in your career.  Contact Dr. Haley (haley@utk.edu) for further information.

I understand that this is a voluntary extracurricular activity.  In case of mishap, change in itinerary, trip cancellation or accident, neither the UT College of Communication and Information, The University of Tennessee, the School of Advertising and Public Relations,  the UT Ad Club, nor the faculty escorts can be held responsible.  Also, once paid, I understand that refunds cannot be given.
