"The Long March" to be shown on PBS

UT School of Journalism and Electronic Media Assistant Professor Bob Legg's documentary, The Long March, will be shown on PBS on Sunday, November 15 at 7 p.m. It will be shown again on Thursday, November 19 at 9 p.m. as well.

JEM Assistant Professor Bob Legg, along with former JEM student Tre Berney, have just received the Award of Excellence in The Accolade Competition, in the international videography category for their documentary "The Tent Cities of Tennessee".
JEM Professor's Play Receives First Staged Reading

JEM Professor Mark Littmann's play, Minding the Heavens, received its first staged reading at the New York Public Library, Oct. 17 2009 in New York City as part of the Inwood Galilean Nights Astronomy Festival.
WUOT News Director Wins Edward R. Murrow Award

Matt Shafer Powell (pictured right with Linda Ellerbee), WUOT 91.9FM News Director and JEM instructor who teaches JEM 311-Electronic News Writing and Reporting, won his first National Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
JEM Alum Appointed President of Lotus Entravision Reps
UT School of Journalism and Electronic Media alum Phillip R. Woodie has just been appointed President of Lotus Entravision Reps, a joint venture radio-sales rep firm that represents approximately 125 Spanish-language radio stations. He will be responsible for maintaining the firm's operations.

The University of Tennessee's School of Journalism and Electronic Media hosted twelve journalists from former Soviet republics under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State's Edward R. Murrow Program.
UT alum receives PRSA honor

UT alum and graduate in Public Relations and Journalism Karen Buchsbaum has been named the recipient of the Bill Adams PRSA Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is given by the Miami chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Bates to become first exchange professor in Austria

Professor Ben Bates will be heading to Austria next semester, as the School of Journalism and Electronic Media's first exchange professor at the University of Salzburg.
Heller receives promotion and committee appointment

Rob Heller was promoted to a full Professor position earlier this year. Heller has been with the School of Journalism and Electronic Media since 1986, and became Associate Professor in 1992.
Luther named Interim Coordinator for Interdisciplinary Programs
Dr. Catherine Luther, Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Electronic Media, has been named as the Interim Coordinator for Interdisciplinary Programs for the College of Communication and Information.
JEM Director receives Honorary Doctorate
Dr. Peter Gross, Professor and Director of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of West Timisoara in Romania in June 2009.
School of Journalism and Electronic Media hosts conference on nuclear power

The UT School of Journalism and Electronic Media (JEM) hosted a McCormack Tribune Specialized Reporting Institute on the Media and Nuclear Power Issues, July 16-18, 2009, utilizing the cooperation and expertise of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and the UT Nuclear Engineering Department (UTNED). The Institute was made possible thanks to a generous McCormack Foundation grant.
JEM Students get a taste of international journalism in Cyprus
16 JEM students from the University of Tennessee spent part of their summer studying abroad in the island nation of Cyprus. They were also accompanied by two professors from the journalism department.
UT's Journalism Professor is Bliss Distinguished Broadcast Educator
Sam Swan, professor and director of internationalization and outreach for the College of Communication and Information, was named the recipient of the 2009 Edward L. Bliss Award for Distinguished Broadcast Journalism Education. Swan was honored at a ceremony on August 6 at Emerson College in Boston.
CCI classrooms benefit from new technology

The College of Communication and Information will utilize several new classrooms outfitted with the latest in technology. Two of the rooms feature brand-new Macs. Another is what John McNair affectionately refers to as "the classroom of tomorrow".

June Adamson, 86, a former journalist for The Oak Ridger and the first woman full professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Tennessee's College of Communications, died April 24 at NHC.
