Created in 1969, the College of Communications combined a Journalism program started in 1947 with Advertising and Broadcasting. In addition to undergraduate majors, the master’s program began in 1968, and the PhD program was approved and established in 1974. The Speech Communication Department moved to the college in 1997 from its former home in the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2002, the School of Information Sciences, created in 1971, combined with the college to form the new College of Communication and Information.
