Bio

Michael R. Kotowski has been a faculty member in the School of Communication Studies at the University of Tennessee since 2007. Dr. Kotowski has pursued formal education in social psychology and communication. Consequently, he has particular expertise in the psychological processes underlying social influence and interpersonal communication. Dr. Kotowski’s research interests can be described broadly as developing and testing social influence theory in the areas of persuasion and compliance-gaining. One representative example of these broad interests is his research examining characteristics of the influential and modeling the mechanisms of their persuasive ability. Another example is his interest in developing valid and reliable ways of measuring verbal aggressiveness and argumentativeness so that the relationship between psychological predisposition and behavioral manifestation can be understood.
