Internship Program

The School of Communication Studies views internships as a valuable supplement to our students' academic experience and encourages its students to pursue internships during their time at UT. Internship experiences provide students with opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to real world situations. The best internships offer the student a range of experiences, provide the opportunity to work on a meaningful project, and involve regular contact with a supervisor who is interested in the student's learning. We expect that students will be able to observe and participate in activities that provide a perspective on organizations and industries in which they may choose to work after graduation. Students interested in living in a new city, state, or country are encouraged to apply for internships in a variety of locations.

The School and its students each take an active role in internship experiences. The student takes initiative to identify internships of interest and leads the process of acquiring the internship. The School facilitates the process of finding an internship and offers curricular support and credit. The goal of this process is that students obtain internships to better prepare them for the working world—from the initial job search process, to networking and building relationships, to daily functioning in communication-related fields. Students will discuss these experiences and forge valuable connections to course content, earning course credit in an internship seminar while forming a network of connections within their focal industry.
