Academics / Undergraduate Program
Students in the School of Communication Studies' undergraduate program are given both knowledge of the theoretical processes of human communication as well as practical tools to use communication to accomplish their goals. Communication Studies students develop a broad background of communication concepts and principles, the ability to understand, critique, and conduct communication research, an understanding of communication theory, as well as practical experience applying their knowledge of communication process in the program's four course core sequence. While completing the core sequence, students also concentrate their studies in one of the School's two areas of expertise: interpersonal communication or organizational communication. By the time our students complete their Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, they have been well prepared for advanced graduate study or careers in law, public service, management, sales, medicine, and education. To help our students meet their career goals, faculty members from the School serve as advisors to our majors, helping them choose a coherent set of courses from within the requirements, including participation in faculty research projects.
