Adv/PR Scholarships and Awards

The School of Advertising and Public Relations does not have scholarships available for incoming freshmen. However, once admitted to the school, students are eligible for scholarships in either advertising or public relations.

Both advertising and public relations students are eligible for scholarships and awards given by the College of Communication and Information. These scholarships are separate from those awarded by the School.

Advertising Scholarships

Each spring the school awards up to 15 scholarships based on need, academic achievement, and professional promise. Scholarships include:

  • Knoxville News-Sentinel Scholarship 
  • Bradford Scholarship
  • Josephine Chambers Scholarship
  • Bohan Scholarships
  • Charles B. Davis Scholarship
  • Scott Helbing Scholarship
  • Ronald E. Taylor Scholarship
  • Advertising General Fund Scholarship

Scholarship value ranges from $300 to $2,000. The deadline for application is February 1 each year. In addition to the University Scholarship application, the School requires a supplemental scholarship form (does not apply to non-majors).

Advertising Honors

Alpha Delta Sigma - Advertising seniors with a 3.25 grade point average and who are members of Student Ad Club are eligible for membership in this national advertising honorary. Membership certificates are presented in the spring.

Outstanding Graduate - Given at the college's Honors Convocation, the outstanding graduate award goes to the graduating senior who demonstrates the most professional promise. It includes a plaque and a check for $100.

Public Relations Scholarships

Public Relations students are eligible for the following scholarships:

  • Julian and Viginia Harriss Scholarship
  • John Lain Public Relations Award
  • Travis M. Parman Public Relations Scholarship
  • Karen Buchsbaum Scholarship

Scholarship value ranges from $300 to $1,500. The deadline for application is February 1 each year. In addition to the University Scholarship application, the school requires a supplemental scholarship form (does not apply to non-majors).

Public Relations Honors

Each spring the public relations faculty award the Sammie Lynn Puett Award to the outstanding senior in public relations.

The J. Carroll Bateman Award goes to the graduating senior with the most proessional promise.
