Graduate students in the College of Communication and Information will have a new scholarship thanks to the generosity of Dr. Sally McMillan, associate professor and associate dean of the college, and her spouse, Dr. James Fields.

The Graduate School will present "Graduation Workshop for Fall 2008 Graduates" from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 4 and from 12:30 p.m.- 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 5.

A public affairs reporting class from UT's School of Journalism and Electronic Media visited the Howard H. Baker Jr. U.S. District Courthouse on April 22 as part of a study on courts and had the rare opportunity of meeting with two federal judges.

The School of Journalism and Electronic Media presented 2008-2009 academic year scholarship awards to outstanding students Monday, April 21 at the JEM Honors Convocation.

UT students' top videos and films will be showcased during the Handheld Film Festival with winners being chosen by the voting audience. The event, hosted by the Society of Media Art Students, begins at 7p.m., Saturday, April 26, at the Downtown West Regal Cinema.

Oleg Manaev, now a visiting professor in the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee continues to fight for democratic freedom in his native Belarus despite government-led propaganda attacks and arrest threats.

The East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists will sponsor a workshop on newsroom leadership from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Knoxville.

A group of Web journalism professionals participated in discussion panels Thursday offering their insights on the future of the medium, the importance of blogging, and the changing style of Internet reporting.

Award-winning journalist and author Adam Clymer will be at UT on Wednesday, April 2, for a luncheon talk and book signing.

The Tennessee Journalist staff is now the proud owner of eight Society of Professional Journalists awards. The awards were separated into five different categories with staff members placing first in each category.
